About Dr. Chandra

Welcome! I’m Arti Chandra, MD, MPH, IFMCP, a family physician of 29 years passionately committed to applying functional and integrative medicine to my patients.

As a proud member of the inaugural class certified by the Institute for Functional Medicine, I strongly believe in identifying the root causes of symptoms and disease and restoring health through healing foods and lifestyle interventions.

My approach to personalized, whole-person care may also involve using nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, referrals to specialists in the conventional and integrative disciplines, and referrals for testing and imaging when indicated.

I offer functional/ integrative medicine specialty care to patients of all ages in a part-time solo clinical practice.

My passion for this work is grounded in the belief that our bodies have an innate wisdom and an ability to heal if given the proper inputs through healing foods/nutrients, movement, mind-body-spirit approaches, sleep, relationships, and sense of purpose and meaning; while negative/toxic inputs are removed or lessened - to create pathways of optimal healing. Health and vitality start in our minds from our beliefs and our intentions and flow from there with our actions and behaviors toward our well-being.

Prior, I led the functional medicine program at Providence/Swedish Medical Center in Seattle for 15 years and then served as the medical director and functional medicine consultant at Vida Integrated Health for two years.

My dedication extends now to consultant and advisor roles, championing functional, integrative, and food-as-medicine approaches to health and well-being at a more wide-reaching, population level.

I have served on the board of Toxic-Free Future that advocates for the use of safer products, chemicals, and practices, and on the Leadership Council of the Personalized and Lifestyle Medicine Institute a collaborative network of clinicians, researchers, and industry leaders. I am honored to be an Advisor for organizations such as Big Bold Health, Inc., Kiss the Ground, and Wunderground Coffee, where I lend expertise in promoting whole-person health and soil health/climate advocacy. I am enjoying providing workshops and education for the Rodale Institute and have recently joined the Design Team of the Nutrient Density Alliance, an initiative of the Soil & Climate Alliance.

As an educator, I am honored to serve on the faculty of the Institute for Functional Medicine and to have completed Duke University’s Leadership Program in Integrative Healthcare. I was privileged to contribute to a former program that brought integrative health training to medical students and medical professionals through a living-learning curriculum called Transformative Medicine: The Alchemy of Healing, and served as faculty for integrative nutrition. I enjoy providing educational presentations to both professional organizations and community groups.

My academic journey began with a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago, specializing in Maternal and Child Health and Global Health. Subsequently, I earned my medical degree from Loyola University and served as the National Chair of a Nutrition and Preventive Medicine Committee. I completed family medicine residency training at Providence Medical Center in Seattle.

My commitment to underserved communities led me to provide care in inner-city Chicago for three years. I then moved back to Seattle, and with an even deeper understanding of the social determinants of health and other root causes of illness, I sought certification in functional and integrative medicine to provide a more whole-person, root-cause approach to helping patients, families, and communities achieve greater wellness.

My mission remains steadfast: to help alleviate suffering and inspire optimal wellness for individuals and communities and to help improve planetary health.
